The Northeast Edmonton Literacy Network was established in 2008 and grew out a project called Widening Access for Adult Literacies. The Widening Access project was conceived to explored to make it easier for adults with literacy challenges to acess community resources. Project staff and staff from agencies worked together to:

  • Increase awareness about literacies and literacy challenges
  • Create literacy friendly environments
  • Use clear languaage
  • Integrate support for literacies into community programs Partner to promote and offer literacy programs
  • Find ways to continue to widen acess after the project ended.

The project was based in Northeast Edmonton, Alberta, and was sponsored by The Learning Centre Literacy Association and The Candora Society of Edmonton. The project formally ended in 2008, but many activities that were started are continuing. The Northeast Edmonton Literacy Network is one initiative that has continued to widen access following the completion of the project.
